#SOCIALintheCITY covers John Butler Trio LIVE at The Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver
February 15th, 2014
Walking into the Commodore, the place was in good vibes with people from all different generations and sub-cultures. I did not know how dynamic of a group John Butler Trio is until I saw the amount of people and felt the excitement growing.
The opening band, little hurricane, was a great welcome into the venue and they had the place moving with contagious energy. We settled into a spot where we were close to the stage, but not too close so that we were engulfed into the core chaos of long-time JBT fans.
Something I noticed was how kind everyone was being. Usually when I go to a show in Vancouver, no one really talks to each other, but in this scenario people were coming up to us and starting conversations and hanging out. It was a promising change!
As soon as the audience figured out it was show-time for JBT, their excitement showed in their hollers and the guys from JBT stepped on the stage with smooth and genuine style.
They started their performance with a slower song, but made a nice transition into a faster-paced show, getting the fans hyped and dancing. The pace took an impressive turn when John Butler took the stage solo and played the popular instrumental, “Ocean”. Wow. Their layers of talent are deep.
It is clear JBT enjoy each others company and they put on a great show. I would see them again anytime!
