Meet SHAKTI SUNFIRE
A #SOCIALintheCITY at Wanderlust Whistler 2015 Interview
Social City Networking INC. is about COMMUNITY, encouraging members of the community to become more engaged positively, as well as supporting the businesses and entrepreneurs that strive to create a positive contribution within it. We aim encourage our community to become community leaders, and that they are capable of anything. We believe that networking and connecting to like-minded individuals positively contributes to both personal and professional aspects of life.
We are proud to have Wanderlust community influencer SHAKTI SUNFIRE share her story with us, and all of you!
About Shakti: An internationally recognized movement guide and an advocate of the Earth, Shakti Sunfire blends her deep love of conscious dance, classical Tantra, archetypal psychology, mythology, ecology, and the study of many nature-based traditions into powerful, embodied explorations of Soul. All designed to coax the whole human experience back from cultural exile, and to catalyze deep, systemic shift in the lives of all who dare dream of flowering.
Describe what community means to you in one word:
Why do you do what you do?
As the soul poet David Whyte says, it’s “the promise it would kill me to break”. Through my own words, I do what I do because deep participation in life is what is asked of each of us. To not do so would be a violation of the gifts I carry, and the way the Earth is dreaming through me.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate and dedicated to the creation of a healthy, vibrant culture – one that is firmly rooted in a world-view that includes the human as a wild participant in the larger ecology of our planet. I’m deeply passionate about midwifing a systemic shift in the collective that moves us out of an industrial, empirical “more-is-more” ME-story, and into a holistic, imaginative, and wildly collaborative future. I am specifically passionate about creating opportunities for each person to directly experience his/her belonging as a crucial part of the whole whose actions, dreams, and soul images matter more than we think.
What about Wanderlust attracted you to become engaged positively in the festival, and how do you feel being engaged benefits the community?
Wanderlust as an organization has always nurtured and coaxed forward the individual creative strengths of each person involved. This ALWAYS benefits this whole as it invites us out of ‘cookie cutter’ similarities and into a free creativity that continues to inspire, grow and evolve today.
Out of these three words, which one is your favorite and why? Collaborate, Cultivate, Create:
Cultivate. Simply because I believe we as a species and as a global community need to cultivate a new world-view if we are to continue living and thriving on the planet into the future. The shift happens first with the stories we hold to be true. When we can cultivate a new story, one that is in greater harmony with the whole, we can move into health and vibrancy. Our capacity to creatively participate together will be born of authentic wholeness and initiated vision for what we’re each here to do.
What is your passion inspired from, and what is it all about:
My passion is inspired from my study of Nature’s maps and cycles; elegant in their simplicity and powerful mirrors for the human heart. I spend time as often as possible in wild open spaces to remember why I’m really here, and what I’m really here to do. It is in Nature that I touch into my sovereignty and my responsibility, my joy, and my deep grief, my sensuality and my shadow. The inspiration there is never-ending!
What is one major lesson/learning you are taking away from your entrepreneurial/dream achieving journey so far?
The first thing that comes to mind is that outer gain in any regard is not motivating, ultimately inspiring, nor fulfilling. The ‘achievement journey’ at this stage in my life is firmly rooted in a sense of urgency to ‘become good food for the Earth’ – to do my best to make my life an offering, to surrender to Mystery’s plan first, to contribute to the whole in the ways I’m called to do, and to live according to my own core values; integrity, authenticity, and soul-infused stewardship of all life. THAT is where the juice is for me!
In your own opinion, how would you encourage others to live more socially engaged within our community?
Paradoxically, my first encouragement would be to withdraw into the interiors of your own wild heart to really listen to what is there that is your own. How is the earth dreaming through you? What are YOU called to offer to the whole? How has Mystery shaped you from the inside out to be the unique expression that you are? In what ways does the larger social environment shape you for good and for worse? How can you apprentice to your own wholeness and sovereignty as opposed to the should and should nots of the over culture? It’s only after diving into the dark interior of your heart and deeply listening and discovering can we each be engaged in a whole and authentic way with our larger community, culture and planet. This is the fundamental challenge of our time – the pull of social acceptance, and the deep hunger for true authenticity. From a place of authenticity our participation is a natural up-welling of creativity and is, at its core, a gift for all.
