Top 3 Moments from Day 1 of #WANDERtribe at Wanderlust Whistler 2015
by Mara Falstein
Top Moment 1: The Arrival.
After a 5am wakeup call and a bleary-eyed road trip from Vancouver, Sara and arrived in Whistler village at 8am. While we were hoping to fit in an 8am yoga class, it was nice to have a bit more time to unwind and settle in. We checked in and—with an hour to kill before we could check into our lodging, Sara and I hit up Purebread. We got there fifteen minutes after it opened and were rewarded with baked goods fresh out of the oven and still warm. We enjoyed our baked goods sitting on the patio soaking it all in.
Top Moment 2: SUP Yoga on Alta Lake
After a killer Hustle & Flow
class with Alex Mazerolle
, Sara and I dropped our mats off at our place and headed down to catch our shuttle over to Alta Lake for a yoga class on stand up paddle boards. We were loaded up two students and one volunteer to a board and ferried from the lake shore over to our “classroom”—a set of stand up paddle boards tethered together on the lake’s edge. The view was breathtaking, as the crystal clear water in front of us stretched back to the lake’s tree-lined edge, all set against the Whistler mountain range and a clear blue sky. Having done a bit of SUP Yoga
before in California, I was expecting it to be easier than it was; the break away from paddle-boarding was a humbling experience. If you’ve never tried it, it’s a pretty killer adventure. Even the simplest of poses require strong concentration, forcing you to stay present and gain a new awareness and appreciation for your muscles while gaining invaluable insight into what it takes to remain stable and balanced on an uneven surface. And it goes without saying that the savasana was beyond blissful. Sara and I both managed to stay dry; however, many of our fellow classmates took a refreshing dive once or twice.
Top Moment 3: Luvo Family Dinner
Sara and I were lucky enough to get an invite to attend a dinner with the Luvo team hosted by the CFO of Luvo in their most beautiful Whistler home. We weren’t sure what to expect but were welcomed with open arms into their tight knit family. There were delicious appetizers, wine and beer, and a family style feast of salmon grilled on cedar planks, steak with a gorgonzola sauce, salad, asparagus, grilled bell peppers and so much more. We ate at a 15 person long table dinner together, as Sara and I enjoyed our night in disbelief of our good fortune for being included in such a beautiful evening of conversation, good food, and new connections.
